Ghana’s President Calls for Concrete Steps Toward Inclusive Governance

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama urged African leaders to establish a solid foundation for inclusive governance and safeguard civil liberties for all citizens. Speaking at the 13th African Union High-Level Dialogue on Democracy, Governance, and Human Rights in Accra, Mahama emphasized that these principles are crucial for building legitimate and resilient states.

Speaking on the forum’s theme, "Justice, Right, Reparation and State Building," Mahama warned that the dialogue must not turn into a mere ceremonial gathering of lofty speeches without meaningful action.

He stressed, "We must protect the freedom of the press and heed and protect the voices of the youth, women, and marginalized groups."

Mahama called on leaders across Africa to translate their democratic and governance pledges into tangible results, highlighting the growing frustration among citizens, particularly young people, over unmet promises.

Mahama noted that young people make up the majority of the population and are becoming increasingly frustrated, emphasizing that they seek not charity, but fairness, opportunity, and a meaningful role in shaping the continent's future.

He underscored the urgent need for transformative leadership and inclusive development throughout Africa to restore the trust of young people and marginalized communities alike.
